What? Braces at my age? There are many patients who come to see us feeling a little silly, sheepish and self-conscious about their teeth and their smiles...and these are patients who are no longer children or teenagers! I want to assure you that you are not alone here at My Ottawa Orthodontist! A significant percentage of our patients are adults and they come to us for all sorts of reasons. Ultimately it's about a straighter and healthier smile that also gives them a boost in self-confidence. Furthermore, there are many different options available that are more discreet than traditional braces such as clear brackets and Invisalign. You can call our office in Manotick at 613-692-4555 or Ottawa at 613-822-7001 or request an appointment through our website at www.myottawaorthodontist.com. Don't be shy, you are not alone and we treat all our patients with the utmost discretion.
There is a great article published by WebMD that discusses all the benefits of adult braces in more detail. Just click on the link below. Until next time, remember, smiles are for life!
\"Braces? At My Age?\"
June 23rd, 2012
"At what age should my child be seeing an orthodontist?" I am asked routinely and when I answer, "Age 7!" people are very surprised. Here are some of the main reasons age 7 is a good time to start orthodontics outlined by the American Association of Orthodontists:
• guide jaw growth
• lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
• correct harmful oral habits
• improve appearance
• guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
• improve the way lips meet
Not only is age 7 recommended but you do not require a referral from your dentist. All you need to do is call our office at 613-692-4555 or 613-822-7001 or visit us at www.myottawaorthodontist.com to make an appointment. We will do an initial consultation to assess your child's need for orthodontics. We are then in close communication with your dentist so that we can work together to achieve the best results-a beautiful and healthy smile!
Here is the full article published by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) that I am posting here for more information on why we like to do an initial consultation at age 7. If you have any questions our knowledgeable and friendly team would be more than happy to answer them! Happy reading!
